Challenge
Empathy is fundamental to successful communication. But in a world that’s becoming more automated and less human, can we use technology to help us gain a better insight into how others feel?
Solution
Partnering with Goldsmith’s University and IBM Watson, Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness developed an algorithm that takes live tweets, looks for words indicative of emotion, then interprets this data as art to dramatise how the world is feeling.

Industry leaders, the media and the general public were invited to participate at the interactive exhibition. Leading artists gave talks about the relationship between empathy and technology and a cancer patient’s journey was explored through the EmoScape®. Fully interactive, visitors were given the chance to record their own pieces of art.

Results
The Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness Emoscape® resonated with awards juries, clients and the world’s media. Launched first online, then at a leading London gallery, the art can be found throughout our branding as an accent of colour, highlighting sections and key pieces of information, and reminding us of what drives human behaviour.
